Do it with zeal!

The other morning I came across this phrase as I reread the conversion of Alma the Younger and the sons of Mosiah.

"And they traveled throughout all the land...zealously striving to repair all the injuries which they had done " (Mosiah 27:35)

A dictionary defines zealously as: "with great energy or enthusiasm in pursuit of a cause or objective."

This phrase made me question:

Do I zealously strive to repair all the injuries that I have done in  words, actions, or lack thereof?

I recently finished a book entitled, The Argument Free Marriage, by Fawn Weaver, which I recommend to all adults, married or not.  I thought it had great lessons in relationships, but also in communication and finances.  A couple of statements from the book have really stood out to me:

  • "You can say what you mean without saying it mean."
  • "The hurtful words you say can be apologized for, but they will always leave a scar."

It can be difficult to right the wrongs we have caused in our lives, but I believe it is required of us if we are going to be true disciples of Jesus Christ.  In addition, if we would want someone to repair the injuries they have caused us, shouldn't we be willing to do the same? In the above verse and definition, I believe not only should the repairs be done with "energy or enthusiasm", meaning you really want to repair the damage, but we should do it quickly. Time only festers the wound for both parties.
