The enemy can be destroyed by the Word of God

This morning as I was reading in Helaman chapter 6, I came across a verse that I never really noticed before today:

"And it came to pass that the Lamanites did hunt the band of
robbers of Gadianton; and they did preach the word of God among the more wicked part of them, insomuch that this band of robbers
was utterly destroyed from among the Lamanites."

What I love about this verse:

  • The Lamanites did not wait for their enemy to over take them, they sought them out.
  • The Lamanites used the most powerful weapon they knew of, the word of God.
  • The Lamanites destroyed their enemy with the word of God.
Do we have such faith in the word of God?  Do we have faith that it can rid us of our personal enemies (temptations, sins, burdens, sufferings, and evil-doers amongst us)?

This week I had been allowing the word of God to bring me down.  I was focusing on why certain repeated blessing in the Book of Mormon for being faithful were not coming true for me and my family.  I was allowing the enemy to ruin my feasting of the word of God.  Instead of refueling myself each morning to a full tank, I was allowing a leak to occur.

Today I recommit myself to rely on the word of God to fight my battles however short or long, mild or fierce, they may be.

I’ll find the sword of truth in each scripture that I learn.
I’ll take the shield of faith from these pages that I turn.
I’ll wear each vital part of the armor of the Lord,
And fight my daily battles, and win a great reward.
