"Ancient Israel was freed from temporal bondage in Egypt by the Lord Jehovah. To commemorate this deliverance, they were commanded to keep the Feast of the Passover. This feast was designed to bring two things to their remembrance: 1) That the angel of death passed over the houses and flocks fo Israel, while slaying the firstborn among the men and beasts of the Egyptians; 2)That Jehovah was their Deliverer, the same holy being who in due course would come into the world as King-Messiah to work out the infinite and eternal atonement." (McConkie, DNTC, 1:704)
The last Passover for Jesus is quite symbolic as he became the unblemished, sacrificial lamb. He made it possible for the destroying angel to passover us.
John 15:13-14 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you."
