Family: A blessing or a curse?

Do you ever wonder if your family (of any kind) is one of your trials in life?  I have been thinking about this lately.  I find it interesting that although we may carry some of the same genes, we can be so different! Then I remember that even though we may share DNA, that is minor compared to fact that we are really spiritual siblings with our own unique (sometimes very unique) personalities, characteristics, trials, and annoyances.  Sometimes I ask myself, "If they were not family, would we ever be in the same association?"

Families are a big, big part of Heavenly Father's plan.  A close friend reminded me that our relationships here on earth are very important.  There is a wonderful song entitled, "The Family is of God."  The chorus rings loudly to me:
Image result for god gave us families to help us become what he wants us to be

So, what am I to learn from these individuals that God has placed in my life?  Patience---always patience, but what else?  As I have observed some of my family members lately, these are some things I have observed:
  • true devotion
  • courage and triumph
  • determination
  • charity
  • tenderness
If you read my last post, you would have learned about the gratitude journal I am keeping on my husband.  What if I kept one for family members?  What if I made it a quest to record all the good things I learn from them?  Maybe, just maybe, my heart would be softer toward them and I could see them the way the Lord sees them.  As the holidays draw closer and we are scheduled to gather together as families, I am going to give serious thought into putting this quest into action.  I will let you know if it comes to fruition.
