Metaphorically speaking, what marks do we place upon ourselves, or let others place upon us?
In the above scripture, "they" are the Amlicites. They had placed a red mark upon their foreheads to distinguish themselves from not only the Nephites, but the Lamanites as well, who also had a mark upon their skin.
Are our marks distinguishing us as followers of Jesus Christ? Do they help us remember that we are special in the eyes of God?
I was reminded of a story called, You Are Special, by Max Lucado that tells the story of Punchinello, the wooden Wemmick who believes that he isn't good enough because of what others say about him. He doesn't like the marks others place on him. One day he learns how to get rid of and prevent the marks from sticking to him.
